Funding agreed to expand computer replacement programme

51³Ô¹ÏÃâ·ÑApp and Bute Council will expand a scheme to replace obsolete or older technical devices such as iPads and Chromebooks across all schools, making sure all children and young people continue to have access to sustainable digital learning.

The Council currently replaces devices used by school pupils that fall within the Council’s Computer Rolling Replacement Programme (CRRP) every five years.

Councillors have now approved funding to expand the programme to include all devices used in schools at an additional annual cost of more than £288,000.

The aim of the programme is to deal with outdated and older devices, provide pupils with access to safe, sustainable modern technology, and enhance network security by eliminating technology that may be vulnerable to security threats.

The expanded scheme will now include iPads, Chromebooks and additional devices purchased from school budgets ensuring that up to date technologies are available across all 51³Ô¹ÏÃâ·ÑApp and Bute schools.

Councillor Audrey Forrest, Policy Lead for Education:
“Providing all pupils with consistent access to devices capable of supporting modern and ambitious digital learning experiences is vital.

“By expanding the computer rolling replacement programme, we can ensure that our children and young people have the best possible learning opportunities and gain essential knowledge and skills to help them thrive.â€

In addition to the CRRP, the Council also operates a disposal system that enables it to generate income from devices, which are no longer in use.
