51³Ô¹ÏÃâ·ÑApp and Bute Schools leading the way in children’s rights

Staff, children and young people from every school across 51³Ô¹ÏÃâ·ÑApp and Bute have worked hard to put children’s rights at the heart of school life, where children feel respected and their talents nurtured. The hard work has now paid off with all schools achieving Gold, Silver or Bronze UNICEF Rights Respecting Awards.

Under the , the programme focuses on giving children the best chance to lead happy, healthy lives and be responsible, active citizens.

Schools across the area are embedding the award values in daily school life by learning more about the articles set by the UNCRC. Activities include children and young people working together with staff and parents to help create a new school charter, shape priorities for the school, fundraise to raise awareness of mental health issues and promote respect with each other in the school.

51³Ô¹ÏÃâ·ÑApp and Bute Council’s Policy Lead for Education, Councillor Audrey Forrest, said:

“We are committed to improving the outcomes for our children and young people in 51³Ô¹ÏÃâ·ÑApp and Bute, and that starts by creating safe and inspiring spaces to learn. I’m incredibly proud of the achievements of all our schools and the hard work going on behind the scenes to achieve their awards. Well done to everyone involved.

The UN Convention Rights of the Child (UNRC) is central to everything we do as a council, not just within Education but when considering all decisions made throughout different services.

The award is not just about what children do, but also what adults do, with staff and children working together to reach these goals together to help young people to realise their potential.â€
