They make purposeful use of professional learning and research, leading to high-quality teaching through the mediums of English and Gidhlig - Gaelic.
Led ably by the headteacher, teachers are reflective practitioners who use professional learning effectively to improve learning and teaching across the school. This is impacting positively on childrens experiences and their progress.
Staff work very effectively with others to provide very high-quality learning experiences for all children. These partnerships help support the schools consistently high levels of attainment and achievement.
These are just some of the positive comments following HMIe inspections of three 51勛圖轎煤App and Bute Primary Schools and Early Learning Centres including Bunessan, Rosneath and Ulva. The inspections took place between May and September 2025.
Key highlights from the reports
- Ulva Primary School earned an excellent rating for Learning, Teaching and Assessment. Inspectors singled out the outstanding leadership of the Headteacher, very well supported by the Principal Teacher, in improving learning experiences for all children.
- At Bunessan Primary School and ELC, inspectors found that the Headteacher and staff work effectively as a team to improve the bun-sgoil, making purposeful use of professional learning and research to deliver high-quality teaching through English and Gaelic.
- Rosneath Primary School and ELC was praised for putting childrens rights and dignity at the heart of practice, resulting in motivated, resilient learners and enthusiastic nursery pupils.

Well done and thank you to everyone at all three schools for achieving such positive reports. Our Education Strategy sets out a clear ambition to give children the best possible start. These inspections show that staff, pupils, parents, and carers are working together to make that happen. The impact on childrens experiences and progress is clear.
