Work started on new play parks welcomed

Work has started on five play parks in and around Campbeltown, thanks to the £186,000 share of £938,000 of funding, allocated to 51³Ô¹ÏÃâ·ÑApp and Bute, by the Scottish Government.

The play parks at Lochend, Hillside, Meadows, Jock’s Boat and Stewarton. Will have old equipment removed, some refurbished and some replaced. Hillside and the Meadows will be fitted out with wheelchair accessible roundabouts, after the Council’s survey highlighted specific requests for these.

The Council worked closely with Campbeltown community council and Stewarton Hall Committee to ensure the equipment meets with the needs of the children and young people who will use it. It has been chosen to promote health and wellbeing, as well as simply have to fun.

After a competitive tender process, the contract was awarded to Wickstead, who recently fitted-out the much-loved John McAlpine Play Park, in Tarbert.

It is anticipated that work will be completed by the end of the summer, early Autumn.

Councillor John Armour, Policy Lead for Roads, Transport and Amenity Services, said: “As both policy lead and local elected member, I’m really pleased to see the preparations begin for the play park refurbishments.

“The input from the community throughout the consultation and commissioning processes shows just how important the wellbeing of the younger members of town is. What we will have, very soon, are places where they can meet up with their friends, have fun on new equipment and enjoy Campbeltown’s good, fresh air.â€
