Scheme of Assistance

Local authorities must prepare and make publicly available a Scheme of Assistance for private sector home owners – this sets out our plan to improve the quality and suitability of private sector housing across 51³Ô¹ÏÃâ·ÑApp and Bute, and explains any assistance that may be available.

The Scheme of Assistance is set out in two parts:

Part 1 – Adaptation of Properties

The provision of Adaptations enables households with health conditions to remain safely at home and makes the best use of existing stock. The Scheme of Assistance only applies to privately owned and rented properties.  Registered Social Landlords are responsible for meeting needs of their tenants.

Part 2 – Improving Property Condition

Private homeowners are primarily responsible for the repair and maintenance of their own property under their title deeds. A key aim of the Scheme of Assistance is to encourage homeowners to act responsibly and to plan for the maintenance and upkeep of their property.

Scheme of Assistance

The Council revised their Scheme of Assistance in 2025.
